EAUH Conference 2006Nobelhouse/The Swedish AcademyThe Swedish Academy is an independent cultural institution, founded in 1786 by king Gustav III in order to advance the Swedish language and Swedish literature. The Academy has also awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature since 1901. The Swedish Academy has 18 members. It is said that Gusav III originally intended there to be 20, half the number of those in the French Academy, but eventually decided on 18 because the Swedish word för that number had such a fine ring. Membership is for life. Visit us at Källargränd 4, Old Town, Underground Old Town.
