Invitation
You are warmly invited to take part in the Eighth International Conference
on Urban History to be held in Stockholm 30th August – 2nd September
2006.
The European Association for Urban History was established in 1989
with the support of European Union. Conferences are organised every two
years. These biennial conferences provides a multidisciplinary forum
for historians, sociologists, geographers, anthropologists, art and architectural
historians, economists, ecologists, planners and all others working on
different aspects of urban history. The invitation includes all scholars
who made urban history a distinctive and innovative subject.
Welcome to one of world’s most beautiful cities.
Stockholm is a modern capital with a flourishing life, rich in culture and history
as well as in cutting edge research and technology. It is an easily accessible
city where almost everything is within walking distance. The Swedish capital
successfully combines an interesting past and an exciting future.
A walk through
the city offers the narrow alleys and medieval atmosphere of the Old
Town as well as the concrete and glass architecture of the modern city.
There is a rich supply of museums of all kinds as well as art galleries.
You can choose from over one hundred museums and attractions with world-class
exhibitions. There is plenty of opportunity for shopping and most shops
are open every day. Here you can find the latest in fashion and famous
Swedish design.
In Stockholm, nature is always close at hand. As the
city is built on 14 islands, the water is always present, and just outside
the city the archipelago of 24,000 islands is waiting to be explored.
